Pennsylvania Dutch Root Beer Candy Stick
Another root beer candy from Pennsylvania Dutch Candies. I got this candy stick from my son for Christmas. I generally prefer candy sticks over rock candies as they have other ingredients than just plain sugar, so they have better texture.

It has a nice minty root beer flavor. It isn’t overly strong but wintergreen is by far the prominent flavor, especially if you bite it, but if you just suck on it the root beer is more balanced. All in all it’s fine as a candy unless you don’t like much wintergreen in you root beer.

It’s a good candy stick, pretty generic as far as they go but not bad in anyway. There’s not really a ton to say about a candy stick from a company I’ve already written about, other than it doesn’t really disappoint, which is really all you want in a candy stick.

Keto Chow Root Beer Float

I was looking through Amazon for any root beer things and stumbled upon this. I’ve not had a ton of experience with protein drinks and Keto stuff, but it says root beer float flavor so I figured I should try. Maybe this could be the thing for those poor souls who can’t eat sugar and thus are deprived from proper root beer float … shake type things. No actually, I don’t think that’s the market, there’s sugar free root beer and ice cream. I don’t know. Keto diet people will want this, maybe. It said to mix with half a cup of fat and 14 ounces of water and then refrigerate over night for best flavor. I chose heavy whipping cream as my fat source, since that seems to be more root beer floaty. The next morning I decided this would be my breakfast.

It smells kind of like a root beer float. The taste is initially a small hint of root beer, accented by the cream to make it floaty, and then it tastes like whey protein. Like, it’s really a lot of whey protein flavor. It isn’t really sweet, which makes sense, because it’s a protein shake. It’s also really thick and creamy and rich, but because the flavor isn’t particularly good, it gets pretty gross the more you drink.

Ugh! This is… not so good. I think the slight bit of root beer float flavor is actually quite a detriment, and makes it worse than if it were just “original” flavor, whatever that would be. I think maybe chocolate would work, I’ve had chocolate whey protein shake stuff before, but root beer float is a fail, like fail hard. Maybe someone out there enjoys this, but I fear they’ve been on the Keto path so long they’ve forgotten what root beer and root beer floats are about. Anyways, avoid if you can.

Sonic Root Beer Float Instant Pudding

I was browsing through Amazon trying to find some root beer stuff to write about and I noticed this. Root beer float pudding? That’s a new one but at the same time, it makes perfect sense. A rich vanilla pudding with root beer flavor could make a great root beer float. This is made by Sonic, a drive-in chain that sadly doesn’t feature their own brand of gourmet root beer in frosty mugs, despite their roots (pun intended) as a root beer stand. Honestly the more I think about it the more I’m just utterly disappointed in them as a company. Abandoning their past root beer glories. Oh well, as penitence they’ve made me a pudding to write about so I suppose I shall begrudgingly give them a pass, for now. Honestly, I’ve never eaten at Sonic, largely because of their utter lack of original root beer. Anyways, how is this pudding of theirs?

There’s a nice creamy vanilla flavor with a mild generic root beer taste. The Aftertaste is mostly vanilla with a little root beer. Overall it pulls off root beer float pretty good, but still has a rather cheapish instant pudding underlying flavor and texture though.

I like it. I must say I’m not a pudding snob in any way, but I find this just yummy as any instant pudding. I really think they nailed the root beer float flavor, which as I’ve seen before, isn’t a given. That said, not all people want a root beer float pudding, and half my family didn’t like it, but if you do want a root beer float pudding, this should satisfy your desire, especially if you only have 10 minutes to make said pudding.
